TECHNICAL BULLETIN – Water Quality & Metalworking Fluids – Why does it matter?

💧 Water Quality & Metalworking Fluids – Why does it matter?

When around 90% of a water-soluble cutting fluid in use is made up of locally sourced water, the quality of that water can have a significant impact on fluid performance.

Hardness, chlorides, sulphates and other dissolved contaminants can gradually build up within a system through the “distillation effect” – potentially affecting corrosion protection, emulsion stability, biological resistance and ultimately sump life.

In our latest Optimum Oils Technical Bulletin, we look at:
đź’§ How water hardness affects metalworking fluids
🔬 The impact of dissolved salts and contaminants
♻️ Why make-up water quality becomes increasingly important over time
⚙️ Tap, softened, DI and reverse osmosis water
🧪 Water testing and recommended hardness levels

As with many aspects of metalworking fluid management, getting the basics right can make a significant difference to fluid life, process reliability and overall performance.

Our technical team can support with water quality, fluid selection, testing and ongoing metalworking fluid management.
